Cavities often form when poor oral hygiene allows the natural bacteria in your mouth to exploit a tooth. This could cause increased sensitivity or a change in color or texture. If you put off having a cavity treated by Dr. Aaron Moore, it could continue to grow and compromise more of the tooth.

A large cavity might weaken so much tooth enamel that it cannot viably be treated by a standard filling. In a case like this, Dr. Aaron Moore might recommend treating the tooth with a dental crown. This will effectively replace the entire tooth enamel layer with an alternative material such as gold, porcelain, or a metallic alloy.

To do this, Dr. Aaron Moore will numb the tooth before using a special dental drill to remove the tooth enamel layer. The remainder of the tooth will anchor your dental crown in place.

An impression will be created of the tooth and the surrounding teeth. This is sent to a dental lab to serve as a guide for the technicians that will create your dental crown.

One of Dr. Aaron Moore’s staff members will call you to schedule a short follow up appointment when your dental crown is ready. At this appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and your new dental crown will be cemented onto the abutment.

If you live in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and you have a tooth suffering from a large cavity, you should call 304-699-0359 to schedule an appointment at Moore Family Dental.
